Tabulay is made by Alain Deléglise, an engineer in Lille. When you write, the person who built the app reads it.

Write to hello@tabulay.app. Include your Tabulay and macOS versions, and never attach a file with sensitive data: describe it instead.
Ideas and bug reports
In the app, choose Help ▸ Send Feedback. It opens your own mail app with a message you read before sending, and never includes your files.

Getting started
- Try it on sample data. Help ▸ Sample Files opens four files that ship with the app: warehouse inventory, book collection, shop orders and support tickets. The SQL editor’s Examples menu writes queries for each one; running them needs Tabulay Pro or the trial.
- Open a messy file. File ▸ Open with Options (⇧⌘O) shows the detected delimiter, encoding, header row, decimals and dates before opening.
- Learn the keys. Help ▸ Keyboard Shortcuts (⌘/), or the full list. ⌘K finds any command.
- Make it your default. Tabulay offers to open .csv, .tsv and .xlsx files when you double-click them. You can change this in Settings ▸ General.
Trial and Tabulay Pro
- Starting the trial. The first time you choose a Pro feature, Tabulay offers the free 14-day trial. It’s a free in-app purchase: nothing is charged and nothing renews.
- When the trial ends. You see one notice. Opening, editing and saving CSV and TSV files stay free, up to 2 GB (larger files open read-only), and so do the inspector’s column profile and card-number protection. SQL, query plans, column insights, Transform, Dedupe, Compare, Normalize and Excel workbooks need Tabulay Pro.
- Buying Pro. Tabulay ▸ Tabulay Pro. One purchase of $29.99 (or your local price), with every 1.x update.
- New Mac or reinstall. Tabulay ▸ Tabulay Pro ▸ Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account.
- A code from us. Tabulay ▸ Tabulay Pro ▸ Redeem Code, or in the App Store app.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Files
- “The file opens read-only.” Files over 2 GB open read-only, so Save becomes Save As. Export View as CSV (⇧⌘E) writes the rows you filtered or queried.
- “Save refuses a row.” A value can’t be written in the file’s encoding (for example an emoji in a Windows-1252 file), or a row isn’t valid UTF-8. Tabulay won’t mangle it. The message names the value and its column: replace that character, then save again. For a row that isn’t valid UTF-8, File ▸ Reopen with Options lets you pick Windows-1252.
- “Numbers are treated as text.” A column is typed as numbers when nearly all its values are numbers written one way: with a decimal point and no thousands separators (
-1234.50), or with a decimal comma (-1.234,50,-12 480,00). For a bank export in the second form, the inspector says “Decimal comma”, and totals, number filters, sorting and SQL read the amounts; saving keeps them as written. Amounts with thousands commas (1,234.50), currency symbols or a trailing minus stay text, unchanged. In a number column, Data ▸ Normalize Column (Tabulay Pro) rewrites the few values written the other way, and shows every change first. - UTF-16, .xls, Numbers documents. Not supported yet: export them as UTF-8 CSV or .xlsx first.
Privacy
Tabulay has no network access and collects nothing. Its settings, recent files and saved queries live in ~/Library/Containers/me.expertiseby.tabulay: delete that folder to remove every trace after moving the app to the Trash. Details in the privacy policy.
